Up to My Eyes

Ideal weaving weather today after two days of rain and near-gales, so good progress made. Let's hope for more days like this! Tomorrow I am in Littlehampton on a day course, and Saturday is the BTG South East meeting, so I will not be back at the loom until Sunday.

A Dyeing Day

Michael, a volunteer helper. He usually does gardening, but the weather was too bad.

Jade green in the new boiler. Which, in case you didn't know already, I LOVE!

Can You Guess My Favourite Colours?

Easy peasy crochet wrist warmers dyed to match the seascape tapestry; Debbie Bliss baby alpaca DK, less than 50g.

This morning's dyeing. 'Silver' Shetland chunky (=DK) space dyed in those same colours, with a dash of yellow. Ready to make a shawl.

And the octopus has not been forgotten; I am nearly up to eye level.

And, joy of joys, look what I collected this afternoon from a very kind lady:-

This is how happy I am.....

My Lovely Bobbin Rack

It was made by the technicians at West Dean for a weaver friend of mine many years ago, and she has passed it on to me. It is the same as the one I used in the West Dean studio for two years. As you can see there is room for a LOT more yarn spools, these are just the octopus ones. I do like nice wooden tools and equipment.

A (slightly blurry; he would not stop walking) caterpillar visiting my loom.

Tomorrow I am going to another steam rally / country fair, so hoping for more auto jumble loot.

"I'd like to be, under the sea, in an octopus' garden in the shade"

Tentacles confined for the present.

The weft bundles; 10 different Harris singles, one orange acrylic, one eyelash. It gets used up fast with my new fringe former.

The fringe is about 5cm (2.5") deep, and makes a good squishy texture!

Tentacles a Go Go

I finished knitting the last tentacle on Thursday, dyed them on Friday, and today filled them with rope and started weaving them into the tapestry. They are hooked up out of the way overnight because when I went in this morning, the weft butterflies which had fallen to the floor had been nibbled. Those pesky varmints!

Tis evening is a book making session with Transition Chichester peeps. I am showing them how to make little notebooks using reclaimed papers and envelopes; we aim to make a whole load to sell at the Green Fair in October.

Progress Report....

The background is approaching the time to shape it to make room for the octopus. I have been waylaying passing children and marking their waist heights on the scaffold to judge it.

Four tentacles are complete, and I am close to finishing the fifth. They are surprisingly fast growing and addictive.
