Residency Day 5: In Honour of IWD

in memoriam: Nanna Daykin; the handkerchief motif will be placed in the lid of the finished box.

Suffragette; Purple for Dignity, White for Purity, and Green for Hope.

Three days away at other things now. Back on Saturday for the Corrymeela 'Violence in the Village' weekend and a performance of Messiah. I shall be weaving a special reconciliation piece throughout.

Residency Days 4-5: 'Defence of the Islands'

After the poem by T.S Eliot, 1940. I have yet to experiment properly with the display form. Lines from the poem may run round the outside of the box rather than being in a booklet.
Land Battle
Sea Battle
Air Battle
The Home Front (Dig for Victory)

Lots of fun weaving the pseudo carrots!

Residency Day 3: Fauré (trimmed) and a New One

Bad light reduces the vibrancy of the purple 'crocuses'. The new one is 'in memoriam: Nuclear Test Veterans'

Residency Day 3: 'in memoriam: Fr Mychal Judge OFM

The colours are from the blue shirt and emergency service stripes of the men who carried his body from the wreckage on 9/11. Full details of his life and death here:-

Residency Day 2: Fauré and Crocuses

Woven and knotted while listening to rehearsals of the Fauré Requiem and other French music - including the sublime Danses Sacrée et Profane. The latter is perfect weaving music. I keep gathering pieces for my treatise on the subject; something about strings under tension.....

Outside the cathedral there is a lawn of purple crocuses; the long ends of the knots will be trimmed once the tapestry is off the frame, and will hint at said field. Title yet to be confirmed.

I expect the community weaving to grow apace today. It is Mothering Sunday and congregants have been invited to bring yarn / thread / fabric and weave it in, in honour and remembrance of their mother or mother-figure.

The working table in the welcome area at the cathedral. One woven contribution to the community tapestry so far, as well as a piece given ready for the Mothering Sunday special.
